Goodness, I can't believe I last posted 18 days ago! I've missed you all! It's been a busy few weeks, although perhaps not all that exciting to relate in detail, so the highlights go something like this:

Much seeing of lovely people and watching of movies, including Juno which I LOVED, Hoodwinked which was better thank I thought it would be (and has an awesome banjo-playing goat), and 10,000BC which...well...the landscapes were gorgeous.

I'm thrilled to bits that Battlestar Galactica has finally started again, and not only because it's a cheap excuse to spend time with [livejournal.com profile] twistedhip and his lovely wife. And we're watching Dexter (TV series about a serial killer) which is oddly paralleled by Death Note (anime and manga series about a serial killer) which I also started watching around the same time. My brain keeps playing compare-and-contrast games between the shows, and particularly the main characters.

I got to take the newly-turned-four BrightBoy (The Mongolias' eldest son, for those of you who know them) to the Ontario Science Centre, which was awesome! \o/ I'm not sure which of us had more fun. His mom reported this amusing exchange she had with him before he and I went:
Mom: So should we go to the Science Centre together sometime?
BB: Only kids can go to the Science Centre.
Mom: But what about [Dendrite]?
BB: Mom, don't be silly.
I love this, though I'm not quite sure what to make of it: am I in a separate category than adults? Is he annoyed (at age four) that his mom is finding holes in his logic? Either way, I LOVE IT.

It is SPRING and it is WARM and LOVELY - but outside still holds no interest for me until the leaves come out. I know, that makes me a bit of a freak, but dammit, I crave foliage!

In procrastination from all sorts of projects I had planned to work on, I am proud to announce that I have a ridiculously organized and de-cluttered storage locker. Which is, y'know, great and all, except I still have a meme to respond to and pictures to post. Apparently it wasn't "coming soon" so much as "coming a month later". *rueful grin*

So, that meme!

Dude, [livejournal.com profile] lemmealone asks really good questions:

If Canada exploded one day, where would you choose to live instead?
Hm. That's a tough one. There are lots of places I love to visit, but to live...? I'd have to say either (a) somewhere in the American Southwest, which I kind of fell in love with a couple of years ago (the deserts and parks are utterly captivating, and I love the artistic pockets scattered here and there), (b) New York City - it and I have been having an affair for years - or, (c) having had my eyes opened to the beauties of Australia, I'd seriously consider living there. Really.

What is the thing that terrifies you most?
Being well and truly last-person-in-the-world kind of alone, which can be made worse if Something Else Not-Human Is There, in the shadows. Only happens in dreams, but is still truly fucking awful when it does.

In real life, my don't-know-how-I-could-get-through-that would be regular, chronic migraines. I've never had a migraine, but knowing the extent to which even my wussy sporadic headaches make me want to curl up and die, I can't imagine facing a life-without-parole of that kind of pain. I can imagine coping with all sorts of other horrible things, like losing all my family and friends or other forms of chronic pain (depending on severity, of course), but there's something about headaches that brings me to my knees in a stop-fucking-EVERYTHING kind of way.

What is the one thing that will make you, without fail, really adore a person no matter who they are?
Ooo, what an interesting question. I've mulled over this one a lot. I'd have to say treating kids and pets with compassion and respect. Not many things warm my heart like seeing happy kids and pets, and I just adore people who treat them well.

Tell me about your favourite poet (if you have one).
You know, I don't really have one. There are individual poems I like, but not poets per se. I've tried to "get" poetry over the years, but much of it just goes over my head, or to the left of it, or something, so I've never found enough pieces I like by a particular poet to constitute liking someone in particular. Sorry. :( *feels terribly uncultured* Lots and lots of visual artists, though!

I also had one question from [livejournal.com profile] trialia, Whatever in the world inspired you to let a random person you met in the street stay on your couch for a week?

When I was backpacking through Europe post-high-school back in '92, I had been sleeping on trains for a couple of days while travelling through Scandanavia. Youth hostels were expensive there, and the distances substantial, so it made sense to just travel at night. But I was sleeping in seats, not sleeper cars, so I was exhausted and hadn't showered in several days. A kind Norwegian university student I met on the train basically took pity on me, and brought me back to her place where I had my first shower and decent meal and sleep in days. I was there for less than 24 hours, but we had a wonderful time, and I've never forgotten her trust and random act of kindness to a wayward traveller and the difference it made to me. So I promised myself to do the same for someone else someday.

And besides, you weren't completely random by the time I invited you to stay on my couch! We'd marched for several hours together in the Pride Parade, and you'd proved your mettle by bravely soldiering on in the Gay Geek cause despite total shoe failure. How could I leave such a comrade-in-arms homeless? *grin*

I suppose I could have been all cynical and assumed that you would Do Something Horrific and/or Rob Me, and that did occur to me, but I'd still rather be the person who tried and was burned than who didn't try at all. And I'm glad I did. :) *hugs*

Funny, I have a favourite poet, but it doesn't make me feel literary and mature at all...

Actually, it might be a close tie between Dennis Lee and Jack Prelutsky... ;)

Oh, and BrightBoy continues to spout random nuggets of information about the Science Centre. So clearly, it was a good thing.

You have no idea how close I came to declaring Dennis Lee my favourite poet! That's hilarious! *high-fives you*

And I'm so glad BrightBoy had a good time. :D

*hugs* I've missed you around here.

Juno was an awesome movie. I love Ellen Page.

Aw, thanks sweetie! *is really touched*

Wasn't it though? I'm normally not much of a fan of anything that isn't action, sci-fi or fantasy, but it was just fabulous. I hope Ellen goes far: she deserves it. (It's always happymaking to see bit Canadian actors make it big!)

Come to Australia! You might accidentally get killed! I mean, uh. Forget I said that.

I find it really interesting that being completely alone terrifies you so much. Initially I would ave FIERCELY disagreed with you on that count, but you know, you're kinda right. It really would actually be the awfullest thing ever.

*treats niece, nephew and pets with the utmost lovingness* <--- see what I did there? Huh?

And hee, poet. I have a bunch of favourites and I'm the least cultured person on the planet, so don't let that be your barometer. ;)

*snerk* forget laywering - you should work for the national tourist board. ;P (Did something happen? What did I miss?)

It's funny, cuz I do really love living on my own. But apocalyptic scenarios of the only-person-left-evar variety scare the crap out of me.

YES, I SAW WHAT YOU DID THERE. *g* You're adorable, you know that? *smishes you*

(And you did see (http://dendritejungle.livejournal.com/#asset-dendritejungle-30148) that I answered your other question, right? No pressure to comment - for all I know it's trigger-y for you - but just wanted to make sure you hadn't just missed it.)

I hear ya. Both my office and home face west, and my home in particular still has the heating on, so it is not so much fun in the afternoon. Summer's reeeeeally fun. *grimaces*

lol, my room faces west too! And the heating, of course, is ON, and it's so hot at night and cold at dawn, it's hard to adjust. XD

Awww. That's really sweet. *huggles* And I'm glad you did too - I was completely broke by the end of my holiday, but I'd have been much worse off if it hadn't been for you and your generosity and your adorable cat! ♥ Also, your couch is comfy.

*giggles* I can't remember, did I tell you it was the con where Katee was that I was going to?

Best summer ever... ♥
