So [livejournal.com profile] vinylroad pointed out earlier this week the small writing on a Nielsen's 2% milk container (scroll down for the photo). HOW HAD I NEVER NOTICED IT SAID THIS!?!? *dies laughing* And she's got a winner of a new tagline for homo milk itself. Homo milk: tastes like sin! \o/

For the non-Canucks in the crowd, "homo" milk is "homogenized" or what I think the rest of the world calls whole milk, as opposed to 2% (2% fat content) or skim milk (no fat).

In other dairy amusement, I was delighted in Australia to discover they had a brand of yogurt called nudie. Also their skim milk had the much "sexier" name of "Slim" or "Trim", depending on the brand. O you clever marketers, you. I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE.

I'm still baffled by "Musk sticks", however... O_o I keep hearing the taste is reminiscent of musk, but I thought musk was an animal scent gland? Is that really an appealing flavour? Sadly, I forgot to taste test while I was there...

That is kind of funny. I don't think we have any products like that.

Well, there's Dean's Milk and Jared's Jewelers, but those are amusing for different reasons.

*runs out to be some Neilson 2% just for the carton!* I usually drink 1% and that's as low as I'll go cause skim milk is GROSS.

Did you know that the fact our milk comes in bags is also quite the oddity?

*g* I used to feel that way about skim milk. Now I find 2% GROSS.

Hey, I didn't know that! (Though now that I think about it, "milk bags" is another fun term to take out of context... *g*)

I can't believe that this managed to slip by every single person involved in the design process. Seriously.

2%? Can you get whatever percentage of fat you'd like in your milk, or is there only 2%? Do you, in fact, live in a crazy land with aisles full of milk of all percentages?

So, because "homogenized" sounds like a process, I went and looked up what it does. And now I know more about processing milk than I'll ever need to!

British food is disappointingly dull. Though I do like saying "Bovril".

Well, there's 3.25% ("homo" milk), 2%, 1%, and, well, I guess skim is 0%...huh. I guess we do have a lot of percentages! I'd never really thought about it. *g*

Oh, I don't know if it's dull - don't you have something called Spotted Dick? That's pretty amusing. :D

Maybe musk sticks taste like musk melons? Otherwise known as cantelopes and such? (inner \o/ for figuring out the html linky thingy)

I dunno, I certainly wouldn't buy musk flavoured candy, sounds like it should belong to the Bertie every flavour beans...

Oh, yes, please!

If it doesn't actually smell like skunk, I'll try one. Skunks smell kind of musky, but it's a very strong smell.

Have you ever seen a live skunk, in a zoo or anywhere? They're kind of cute. Stinky when annoyed, but cute.

And...um...if you were able to fit in any Red Rock Deli potato chips of, say, the Tzatziki or Honey Soy Chicken variety, I would be slavishly grateful.

i'll see what i can do, though they mightn't be the easiest to transport. they might become mere crumbs by the time they fly melbourne-auckland-l.a.-vancouver-toronto.

Hey, I'm sure they'll taste awesome, even just as crumbs! :D (And no worries, if you can't, either: it's not like I'm going to kick you out if you don't show up on my doorstep with potato chips!)

Did you know there are several websites devoted exclusively to Aussie food for ex-pats? I kind of love that.

DUDE. SO SOON. I AM SO PSYCHED. (I'm also a little behind on LJ, and it will probably be a few more days before I'm back online properly. But I hear you're back, so yay! I can't wait to catch up!)

I drink the very kind of 2% shown in the photo, and I can safely say that YES, IT DOES TASTE LIKE HOMO.

But BETTER, because it's filtered. I assume that takes away all the little hairs that otherwise might get stuck in your teeth.

OK, stopping now...
