Quote of the day

So it's Pride weekend here (yay!) and I'm wandering around just in my undies muttering, "What should I WEAR?" My houseguest commented, "It's Pride; you're all set!"

I love Pride. :D

At least put on some sunblock, bb. ;)

OH HELL YES. And a hat. And a long-sleeved shirt. *g* Just took me a little while to get organized! ;P

Hooray for Pride! And hooray for Den in her undies!

I'm going to wear a pretty bra so that I can be topless later if I feel like it. :)

I APPROVE OF THIS PLAN. XD

Your houseguest speaks the truth :) Happy Pride!

Happy Pride, m'dear!

The small boy was a little upset about outfits like that at Pride last nigh. Snack racks everywhere, but I would not let him latch on to any. It was such a clear lesson in what different meanings small people give to nipples.

Awww! Poor little guy. That is interesting, though - I forget too, in my kid-limited world, what an important and specific role they play at that age! :)

Yay! Nothing like maintaining demeaning ridiculous stereotypes! QAIA being a bright shining case in point!

You know, if I thought any of these groups marching was serious about achieving measureable political and social goals I would fly in for this event, but like "Who cares if they don't themselves care"....

I'm puzzled by your comment. I'm not quite sure which "demeaning ridiculous stereotypes" you're talking about? Being topless/mostly naked? What does QAIA have to do with that? (I'm genuinely curious: I don't understand your statement here.)

To your second point: many of the groups marching ARE very serious about achieving measurable political and social goals, and while this year I choose to simply walk around briefly during the day rather than participating in marches or events - one of the things I love about Pride (aside from the organizing committee's politics this year, which I do NOT love :P) is that it can be so many different things to different people - I at least support those activist efforts in spirit. Frankly, your dismissal of those who work hard at change alongside those who prefer to party both comes across as both reductionist and insulting.

Removed the misplaced "both." :P

You might be a little overdressed. ;)

But definitely sunscreen. And a hat. That should suffice.

I know, right? ;) I ended up wearing quite a bit more, actually. (long sleeves! *gasp*)

Lol, that's great.

It really was - and appropriate, given my default user icon. *rueful grin*

Heh. :P

Pauley won't go to pride because he's scared of the naked men. What has been seen cannot be unseen?

Not being a half naked party animal myself, I find it hard to relate to (the parade, that is). It's not like a typical day in the life of a LGBT person...but it's not supposed to be. It's a big half-naked party. :P It's kind of like when straight people go to Vegas or on spring break or something, but nobody makes broad stereotypes about all straight people based on that.

LOL.

Happy Pride! I hope the coverup worked. I hear sunburned nipples are no fun. ;)
