So I bought myself a Dremel. For those of you who don't know, a Dremel is a "rotary power tool" - kind of like a bigger and more powerful electric toothbrush, with fun attachments that spin really fast and let you grind, polish, sand, cut, etc. And, of course, being my mother's daughter, I went NOT for the perfectly good $85 model. Noooo, I bought the $200 model, because it comes with attachments. Attachments. Like a little light, and a planer, and a circle-maker (I kid you not), and an actual SAW. *drool* God, I am SUCH a gadget geek. And I am feeling quite pleased with myself that I've managed to actually use one of the attachments already! Typically, of course, I will buy something expensive, and then buy other gee-gaws designed to work with Expensive Thing, and the whole kit and caboodle will languish in my closet after maybe an enthusiastic hour or two of use.

Anyway, after fondling it for a bit, and (very dangerously) looking around my hapless home and asking myself, "Okay, what can I saw to pieces?" I came to my senses and pulled out my current Project. Yes, dear reader, I am one of those well-meaning but useless individuals who has GREAT ideas, rushes out to buy all the materials, putters a bit...and then the project in question languishes while I guiltily try not to think about it. For years. See above with Expensive Things. *sigh*

Aaaanyway. THIS time, after having bought some antique window frames some two or more years ago to strip, stain, and mount pictures in for my front hall, and begging my father to sand them for me (I live in a condo with a carpet, and he loves projects - and actually finishes them) which he very kindly did, I've been trying to find a way to do hours of desperately-needed detail sanding on them without going stark raving mad. I took them to a nearby park a couple of weeks ago and sanded the crap out of them by hand for two hours. Only to have a well-meaning neighbour say that, "Yeah, they really need sanding" - about the two that I HAD just sanded.

So I have this amusing setup in my bathroom (easier to clean the floor - but getting to the toilet takes some gymnastics) with two folding chairs and a window laid across it, and spent part of yesterday evening merrily sanding away. Turns out the wood is reeeeally soft, and I'm not very competent with this whole Dremel business yet, so...how shall I put this...the window is no longer quite as smooth as it was. It has these little gouges every so often. But hey, at least the paint is off!
